The area is numbed with local anaesthetic first. You will feel the injection briefly and pressure during the procedure, but not pain.
Some mark is unavoidable. How visible it is depends on the size and site of the mole and the method used, and this is discussed with you before removal.
If it has changed in size, shape or colour, has an irregular border, or itches, bleeds or crusts. Any of these should be examined promptly.
Moles removed superficially can occasionally return. Where that matters, complete excision is the appropriate method.
Both destroy the tissue rather than remove it, so nothing can be examined afterwards, and the risk of scarring and infection is higher.
