When Are Intralesional Injections Recommended?
Two quite different problems answer to the same injection. The first is the deep, painful nodule that will not come to a head and lingers for weeks. The second is the raised scar left where a spot healed with too much tissue rather than too little. Both are inflammation held in one place.
A very small dose of prescribed anti-inflammatory medication is placed directly into the lesion, where it settles the inflammation at source. A nodule usually softens within a few days. A raised scar flattens gradually across spaced sessions. It treats the lesion in front of it and nothing else, so acne that keeps producing them still needs treating in its own right.

Too Much Steroid Leaves a Dent Where the Lump Was
This treatment is judged entirely by dose. Given too strong or too often, it thins the skin and leaves a small depression, or a paler patch where the injection went — both more noticeable on Indian skin, and both harder to correct than the lump that was treated. An inflamed nodule typically settles within two to three days, occasionally taking a week. Raised and keloid scars behave differently — they soften and flatten gradually across sessions spaced weeks apart, and some require several. Keloid scarring can recur and may not flatten completely. Your dermatologist will tell you which of these you are dealing with and what is realistic before anything is injected.
